Winson Creation's Ape Explorer

Hong Kong's Winson Creations has just released its Space series in the Ape Explorer line. The are two editions of SPACE ADAM that are currently available. The regular dark-red space-suited ORIGINAL SPACE COLOR ADAM (edition size unknown), and the white-suited SPECIAL ADAM - limited to only 400 sets! Both figures will be distributed via Hot Toys and Winson Creation. The detailing in the suits is probably the most incredible that I have ever seen. (See the video and you will know what I mean.

Fritz Kahn Steampunk Wizard

Influenced by Dada, neue Sachlichkeit, surrealism, futurism, Bauhaus, constructivism, Art Deco, neo-classicism, comic strips, photomontage, and advertising graphics, Fitz Kahn, and the artists working under his direction, visually explained how the human body works, based on the findings of modern biological science. (His images were all created in the 1920's!!)

At the same time, the images refer back to the chaos, violence, impasses, pleasures, dreams, and technological and sociocultural ambitions of early and mid-20th-century Germany.

Kahn deployed a visual vocabulary of modernism to figure industrial modernity within the body and the body within industrial modernity. The result was a corpus of images and tropes which imagined a new body for the modern age.

This video animation was created by Henning M. Lederer in 2009 (using the art of Kahn)it depicts the human body as a huge factory.

It's been a while since a custom toy has floated my boat and in the past couple weeks, there have been a few that have caught my eye. 2010 has just been given an injection of creativity....

Teimaru has done a great job customising Yosuke Yamamoto's Koibito figure.

Steampunk Anthology Book

The term "Steampunk" is applied almost too often these days, with some sub-genres even branching out like dieselpunk, greenpunk, stitchpunk etc. This book, however, aims to preserve the purity of the steampunk mainstream by collecting some excellent stories from around the world. Although none are very recent - most of the included stories are from the 1990s and before - there is a reason for that:

"The goal of the anthology was to collect the iconic first/second wave stories along with some interesting variants, also mostly from ten years ago or earlier," says co-editor Jeff VanderMeer, "Steampunk II, which we're working on now, collects reprints from the last ten years". says Ann Vandemeer, the books editor.

If you are unfamiliar with the genre of Steampunk, have a look at my previous posts HERE.

Automaton Steampunk 3D Art

Almacan, aka Kazuhiko Nakamura is a 3D surreal artist I found whilst perusing Deviant Art. I really liked his eye for detail and all the inner workings of the head seemed so realistic to me.
